Visit of Dr. Joachim Wink from the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, Germany

On Oct 26 2017, IULI received a visit from PD Dr. Joachim Wink, a researcher who is currently the Head of Microbial Strain Collection at the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, Braunschweig, Germany.

Dr. Wink had a meeting at dinner with a LIPI researcher, Ibu Agustine Susilowati,  IULI’s Dean of Life Sciences, Dr. Tutun Nugraha and Prof. Dr. Peter Al. Pscheid, Chairman of IULI’s Project Implementation Unit (PIU). Together, they explored the possibility of scientific exchange in the area of Infection Research.

As a resultJoachim Wink will provide lectures at IULI in its “Flying Faculty” program during the first part of 2018.

The subjects will be (for Life Science students):

  • Biology of metabolite producing microorganisms
  • Isolation and taxonomic characterization of Myxobacteria and Actinobacteria
  • Analysis of secondary metabolites with a focus on antibiotics

Previous to his meeting at IULI, Joachim Wink gave a lecture at the International Conference on Applied Chemistry in Jakarta (ISAC 2017), which was organized by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).  Tutun Nugraha from IULI also gave a presentation at ISAC. It was the result of a research cooperation between LIPI and IULI.
