What's Inside?

Biomedical Engineering is a multidisciplinaryfield that appliesengineering design and conceptsinto applications within health and medical fields. Biomedical Engineers bridge the capacity of designing, testing and manufacturing of the engineers, with the needs of medical doctors, hospitals and clinics for various devices for diagnostics, therapeutics and patients monitoring tools.

Biomedical Safety is another concern that biomedical engineers will bring into the manufacturing industries, since such devices are strictly regulated in their uses. From the more simple devices, such as blood pressure monitor, blood glucose monitoring device, to the more complex devices such as ultrasound and X-ray units, up to the more complex systems such as PET/CT Scan for medical imaging for cancer diagnostic tools, these are examples of devices produced by cooperation between biomedical engineers and those who specialised in the medical fields.

The roles of the Biomedical Engineers are crucial in designing and advancing these devices and to further improve their functions, safety and reliability.

Why Study Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical Engineering is an amazing field for students with deep interest to design products and biomedical systems, providing technical support for biomedical equipment, training clinicians, and other persons to the proper use of biomedical equipment, or evaluating the efficiency, safety, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment.

Biomedical Engineering is also known as Bioengineering. It is a field of engineering that combines biology and engineering to design healthcare equipment by the application of engineering. It combines the principles and problem-solving skills of engineering with biological sciences to improve healthcare treatment including monitoring, diagnosis, and therapy.

The demand for Biomedical Engineers is increasing nowadays because of the naturally growing efforts to provide people the best medical care on the one hand and on the other hand because of the growing usage of machinery and technology. In the past, biomedical engineers were for example responsible for many life-saving and revolutionary developments like kidney dialysis, artificial organs, new pharmaceutical drugs, and surgical robots. So, IULI is providing the golden opportunity to the students through this four-year degree program to become the next generation of biomedical engineers.

After graduation in Biomedical Engineering, there are different areas of focus for students and they can find the exact nature of the job according to their chosen specification. As a Biomedical engineer, you will be able to apply the principles of engineering and bio-behavioral sciences to design and develop medical diagnostics, clinical instrumentation, and other equipment. You will be able to research new materials and techniques that may be applied in artificially implanted organs. Further, if you develop your creative thinking and remain up to date with technology, you will be able to find solutions to problems related to the biomedical sciences.

Our Biomedical Engineering degree program enables students to learn about advanced technology for the medical field while gaining deeper knowledge of human physiology. The students will be able to innovate new devices for human health and beauty and will improve the aesthetic of the human body and fitness.

There are a huge number of opportunities and jobs available within the aerospace industry and aviation industry for aeronautical engineers and great room for private growth and development. Many governments, defense, and space agencies (both Indonesian and foreign) also are on the lookout for aeronautical engineers to develop flying vehicles and systems. After getting the aeronautical degree certificate, one can also start your own start-up company which is quite famous in many areas (Aeromodelling, UAV Unmanned aerial vehicle, Drone’s manufacturing, Rapid prototyping, R&D projects), etc.

IULI (International University Liaison Indonesia) is located in BSD City close to Jakarta and is offering a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering. We are offering two types of degree programs:

  • One is IULI 3+1 International Program in Germany in which students study for three years in Indonesia at IULI and one last year in Germany at TU Ilmenau (Technische Universitat Ilimenau). The students will be given the opportunity of doing research work under the supervision of the experienced research team of our partner university. We offer the students internship opportunities in Germany to gain practical experience related to their degree. After that, the students will be able to start their careers or continue with postgraduate studies.
  • The other is IULI 3+2 International Double Degree Program in Taiwan (S.T. & M.Sc.) in which students are given a chance to experience a cooperative program with NFU (National Formosa University). The students complete their Bachelor’s Degree (S.T) and Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) by studying for three years in Indonesia and two years in Taiwan. After completing their degree, the students are enabled for working in the industries or they can continue their studies in order to get Doctorate Degree. Our graduates have enough confidence to work at international workplaces like lecturers and researchers.
Biomedical Engineering is an advanced field with multiple subdivisions like biotechnology, bionanotechnology, tissue culture, genetic engineering, etc. Biomedical Engineers can get jobs in research facilities, hospitals, test laboratories, universities, educational and medical institutions, government regulatory agencies, or in manufacturing industries. The future is promising for Biomedical Engineering graduates because their demand is increasing as technology is advancing.

Biomedical Engineers apply various engineering practices (including biological and medical principles) to complex research projects. They can research on engineering aspects of biological systems, both animals and humans, by working in teams with engineers, scientists, and healthcare workers.

As a biomedical engineer you can build your career by designing computer hardware and software for medical purpose. Furthermore, many hospitals have developed centralized clinical engineering departments that offer the Biomedical Engineering graduates career opportunities. Also, there are health care professionals who need the assistance of biomedical engineers to utilize the existing technology and to apply innovation. Talking about concrete career opportunities, a Biomedical Engineering graduate can become:

– Biomedical Scientist
– Medical technology developer
– Rehabilitation Engineer
– Biomaterials Developer
– Manufacturing Engineer
